Bank Reconciliation

Every bank line, matched or explained.

Statements as the bank issued them, mapped to the right ledger, reconciled to the paisa at any date you choose — and nothing matched on a guess.

Bank reconciliation is the one working paper nobody argues about and everybody dreads. The statement is in whatever format the bank felt like issuing, the books are in Tally, and somebody has to sit between them until the two agree.

Any bank, any format

Statements arrive as spreadsheets, as PDFs, as exports with the columns in a different order every quarter, and from banks that each have their own idea of what a narration is. Audcrix takes them as they come and maps each statement to the bank ledger in the books it belongs to, so a client with eleven accounts is eleven reconciliations rather than eleven afternoons.

Matched, open, and the ones worth a second look

Two views, and between them the whole job:

  • The reconciliation — every book entry set against the statement line it cleared as, with the basis for the pairing stated beside it. What remains unmatched on each side is listed, not hidden in a total.
  • The statement of reconciliation — balance per books, the reconciling items, balance per bank, at any date you choose, to the paisa.

What could plausibly pair but is not certain is offered as a suggestion, never recorded as a match. A reconciliation that quietly guesses is worse than one that is honestly incomplete, because the guess is invisible by the time anyone reviews it.

At any date, not just year end

Pick a date and the reconciliation is as at that date. A quarter end, a month in the middle of the year, the day before a loan application — the same working paper, without rebuilding it.

The items that turn into something else

Stale cheques, entries sitting on the bank side that never reached the books, credits nobody recognised: the leftovers of a reconciliation are often the beginning of another conversation. They come out as a list you can hand to the client rather than a number you have to explain.

Sign-off where the work is

The reconciliation carries its own preparation, review and approval marks, so who did it and who checked it is recorded on the paper itself.

Questions CAs ask

Which banks and formats are supported?

Statements are taken as the bank issues them, in the common spreadsheet and document formats, and each one is mapped to the bank ledger in the books it belongs to. A client with several accounts is handled as several reconciliations in one place.

Can a reconciliation be prepared at a date other than year end?

Yes. The reconciliation and the statement of reconciliation can be prepared as at any date — a month end, a quarter end or any particular day — without rebuilding the working paper.

Does it match entries automatically?

Items are paired where the pairing is unambiguous, and the basis is stated beside each one. Where more than one reading is possible, it is offered as a suggestion for the auditor to accept or reject, never recorded as a match.

What happens to items that never reconcile?

They stay visible as open items on whichever side they sit, so stale cheques, unrecorded bank entries and unidentified credits come out as a list that can be taken up with the client.

Is the reconciliation signed off inside Audcrix?

Yes. Preparation, review and approval are recorded against the reconciliation itself, so the working paper carries its own trail.
